Biography:
Saruman, appearing first in *The Fellowship of the Ring*, is a key figure in Tolkien's Middle-earth saga. He is initially presented as the head of the White Council and leader of the Istari (Wizards), sent to Middle-earth to aid in the fight against Sauron.
However, Saruman, known as Saruman the White, falls prey to the lure of power. He desires to possess the One Ring for himself, believing he can use it to rule Middle-earth for its own good. This leads him to betray the Free Peoples and align himself with Sauron, though ultimately aiming to supplant him.
Saruman establishes his own power base in Isengard, where he breeds an army of Uruk-hai to wage war. His treachery and ambition make him a formidable antagonist, challenging the heroes of the Fellowship and ultimately leading to his downfall and the destruction of his forces.
